CM: Fight corruption, GST is not the only way to increase revenue

SHAH ALAM, 17 Mar: The implementation of the goods and services tax (GST), starting April 1, by the central government is not the sole solution in increasing national income.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that revenue can be increased by fighting leakages, corruption and non-transparency.

“We are questioning why the GST is being implemented now when the people are not ready, especially since there are other ways to increase revenue.

“It would be better if the GST is suspended till a more appropriate time,” he said during the State Government Departments’ Monthly Assembly today.

Located at the Silver Jubilee Hall at the SUK Building today, the event was also attended by the State Government Secretary, Datuk Khusrin Munawi, and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) Director, Datuk Haris Kasim, and members of the State Government Exco.

At the same event, Mohamed Azmin also launched the ‘Integrated and Holistic Education System’ (IHES) which was introduced by JAIS.

“I believe that JAIS will continue to play are role in administering and empowering Islamic education, not only for Muslims but to attract non-Muslims,” he added.
