SHAH ALAM, 3 Apr: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) needs to change the target for vehicles by 2030 and to prioritise public transport at a ratio of 60:40 if they want to solve traffic problems.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the target ratio of 40 for public transportation and 60 for private vehicles will urge the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) to build more highways.
“I hope that the target made by SPAD by 2030 can be amended because according to their target, the ratio if 40:60.
“The state government proposed for the ratio to be amended to 60:40, 60 for public transportation and 40 for private vehicles,” he said, answering a question from Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias (BN-Sungai Burong) on the measures to solve traffic problems due to the cancellation of the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex).
Mohamed Azmin explained further that the proposal was informed during the meeting with the Minister of Public Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, on March 19.
The state government also urged Putrajaya to provide a larger allocation to the SPAD for the purpose of enhancing the capability of the land public transport in Malaysia, particularly in Selangor.
