Permatang Pauh by-election: Pakatan machinery ready to defend victory

PERMATANG PAUH, 15 Apr: The Pakatan Rakyat machinery for the Permatang Pauh by-election is ready to defend PKR’s victory, thus sinking Umno-Barisan Nasional.

The PKR Deputy President, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that he is happy because DAP and PAS are committed to helping PKR maintain the Permatang Pauh seat in the by-election on May 7.

He said this this is what BN and Umno are afraid of, when Pakatan is united.

“We will not be divided. We only have one enemy, BN and Umno,” said Mohamed Azmin, taken from Malaysia Kini.

The Penang PKR Chairman, Datuk Mansor Othman, said that the three Pakatan component parties will hold hands and unite to ensure that the seat is won.

“PKR is with PAS and DAP to mobilise the machinery to ensure that the Permatang Pauh seat remains in the hands of Pakatan Rakyat.

“The fight on grounds of upholding PKR and fighting against tyranny is the core of the fight against Umno-BN and will continue to be a priority in the effort to sink Umno-BN in the by-election this time,” said Mansor, taken from Keadilan Daily.

More than 1,000 attendees flooded Dataran Rakyat at Taman Guar Perahu, Penanti, and did not budge despite the continuous drizzle.

The choice of the launch theme ‘For the Sake of the People, Oppose GST and Uphold Justice’ is appropriate for the people to make this by-election a referendum to reject the goods and services tax (GST).

The launch gimmick was also enlivened with a recital of the pledge and flags from across the country and the three parties in the Pakatan coalition.

State leaders who were present, including the DAP Chairman, Chow Kon Yeow, and the State PAS Deputy Commissioner, Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, are determined to ensure that the Pakatan candidate which will be announced later will maintain the seat previously won by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Permatang Pauh by-election will be held on May 7, while the nomination day is on April 25.

This is the third by-election there since 1998 and PKR managed to defend the stronghold in that parliament.

The second time was when Anwar was released and his wife, who is also the PKR President, Datuk Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, resigned as the Member of Parliament there to make way for Anwar to return to Parliament.

Now, it is being held once again following Anwar’s imprisonment as a political prisoner.
