Avoid using polystyrene containers to ensure that the environment is unpolluted

PETALING JAYA, 28 Apr: People are advised to not use polystyrene containers to ensure that the environment is preserved because the material is hard to be disposed of.

The Deputy Exco for Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs, Gan Pei Nei, said that the campaigns are being carried out to create awareness and provide knowledge to be practiced in everyday living.

“Earlier in 2011, we held the No Plastic Bag Day campaign and received positive reaction from the people who started to bring reusable bags when shopping.

“This time, we are taking a step further with the Zero Polystyrene Campaign so that the people know that the material is not good for the environment because it is hard to get rid of (non-biodegradable),” she said during a press statement.

Prior to this, she officiated the Petaling Jaya Environmental Expo 2015 and launched the Zero Polystyrene Campaign at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Civic Hall this morning.

Also present was the Deputy Mayor of MBPJ, Johary Anuar, who also accompanied Pei Nei in visiting exhibition stalls.

Elaborating, Pei Nei called on the people, especially residents’ associations to collaborate with the state government and relevant agencies to organise awareness campaigns.

“It can be held at their residential areas to provide exposure to the local population,” she said.
