Azmin: “Do not abuse civil servants”

AMPANG, 15 June: The proposed disciplinary action against civil servants who fail to repay the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan is abusing these people.

The PKR Deputy President, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the proposal by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin, is unwarranted during the country’s uncertain economic conditions, coupled with the people’s increased cost of living.

“Of course they are not able to make the PTPTN payment and it is inappropriate to punish them in such a way.

“It is not their intention to be in debt but their inability to continue their studies should be taken into account,” he said when met by Selangor Kini at the Ihya Ramadan Contribution Presentation Ceremony 2015 for Bukit Antarabangsa yesterday.

Previously, Khairy in response to the media said that there is no reason for civil servants to not repay loans as they have steady incomes.

He was referring to the over 33,000 civil servants who have still failed to repay the PTPTN loan.

Mohamed Azmin said that Pakatan Rakyat from the outset urged for the country’s education to be given free of charge as the sector is a long-term investment.

“With Selangor’s limitations as the state government, we will begin steps to finance most of the education cost at UNISEL and KUIS.

“It should be emulated by the federal government in taking care of the people’s welfare and not to burden them with debt,” said the Chief Minister of Selangor.
