Red Giants remain committed to maintaining 3rd place

SHAH ALAM, 16 Aug: It is hoped that the Selangor team will remain consistent in their focus to achieve victory for the last two games to maintain their third position in the Super League 2015.

The Selangor coach, Mehmet Durakovic, said that the Red Giants are trying their best to maintain the position.

“Of course we will always compete to win.We will never practice a defensive game for a tie, even in this game,” said Mehmet, taken from the Selangor FAS website.

The two more matches will involve Kelantan on home ground (Wednesday) and Perak at the opposition’s grounds (Saturday). Hopefully, we can achieve maximum points.

Meanwhile, Mehmet said that the take-home points after a 1-1 draw with LionsXII at the Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore, last night made him rather happy as the opponents were hard to be taken down on their own ground.

He said that it is not easy to face LionsXII on the artificial grass field, but the Selangor players managed to display a proud performance and they did not give up during the game.

“The LionsXII equalizing goal was world class and we could not do anything to prevent it. But overall, I am pleased with this result and with the way the game was played. I am rather happy with this one point.

“Last year we also conceded a goal in the final minute here (lost 2-1). So, it is not easy to win here because LionsXII always plays well at home.

“But my players played according to plan and managed to win this one point,” said Mehmet.

The leader goal by Afiq Azmin at the 59th minute was managed to be tied with an acrobatic finish by the LionsXII substitute striker, Khairul Nizam Kamal, at the 88th minute.
