AMK: Use stun guns to deal with criminals not people’s gatherings

PETALING JAYA, 25 Aug: The Keadilan Youth Brigade (AMK) condemned the proposal by the police to use taser guns against protesters of Bersih 4.

The Central AMK Chief, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, described the proposal to use taser guns as an effort to scare the people from an uprising to voice their rights by participating in the gathering that will take place on 29 and 30 August.

“AMK urged the police to stop such provocation because it does not help because the freedom of speech is enshrined in the constitution.

“The authorities must put an end to all this pressure against the people who want to use this channel to voice their right,” he said during a press conference at the PKR Headquarters today.

Also present was the AMK Vice Chairman, Tan Khair Hing, and Squad Chief, Rafizal Ahmad.

Previously, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, reportedly said that the police will use taser guns if they are forced to ensure the smoothness of their duties during Bersih 4.

Selangor Kini understands that taser guns have the ability to shoot between 15 to 35 feet and is able to weaken a person’s ability to move immediately.

“This move is unnecessary after the people were punished with tear gas and water cannons.

“Taser guns are typically used to handle violent actions from criminals, but this are people who want to gather peacefully,” he said.
