SHAH ALAM, 24 Aug: The Federal government is asked to be more responsible for the land submitted by developers to them, said the Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Living, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad.
He said that the Federal government should not sell the land submitted by developers to them for public amenities for other purposes.
“The Planning Permission approved by local authorities for large-scale development would require developers to submit land to build public facilities such as schools, clinics, police stations, fire stations and so on.
“For public facilities built by the Federal government, the land is handed to the Federal land Commissioner. But there are cases where when the land is submitted, public facilities are not built,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini.
According to him, there is a case where land in Section 7, Shah Alam, that was given to the Federal government for the construction of a police station was initially sold to a private company for commercial development, a serviced apartment project.
“Although there is no need to build a police station, it is not fair to the developer who submitted their land for public facilities.
“The Federal government should be more responsible and to not profit from any surrender of land,” he said.
To avoid from such incidents recurring, Iskandar said that the state government set that any land surrendered to the Federal government for public facilities can only be developed for the original purpose when it is submitted.
“The state government will also regulate the use of the land submitted through the Local plan which sets the land use,” he said.
