Anwar: Respect right to see a lawyer

SHAH ALAM, 10 Sept: The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, wants the right to meet his lawyer to be respected to ensure the smooth running of the case in court.

Anwar, in a statement delivered by the PKR Communications Director, Fahmi Fadzil, said that he is disappointed by the decision by the Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who restricted Anwar’s meeting with his lawyer.

“This is a violation of my right to seek legal advice and preventing the duties and responsibilities of my lawyer.

“This action deprives me from discussing and giving instructions regarding the court case, where I am involved in a total of 16 civil and criminal cases,” Anwar said yesterday.

Anwar said that his lawyer, N Surendran and Dato Ambiga Sreneevasan, were not allowed to see him event though they had to take instructions regarding the court case that took place on September 15 and October 5.

“Previously, lawyers were prevented from meeting despite having an affidavit to meet immediately.

“Respect the law and court process by allowing lawyers to carry out our jobs properly and without interruption!” said Anwar.
