Local authority tender awarding should enhance in transparency & integrity

SHAH ALAM, 5 June: The awarding of projects and tenders by the local authority should be enhanced in transparency and integrity so that no tenders are given to cronies.

The Sepang Council Member (MPSepang), Dr Teo Lian Seng, said that the issue should be curbed to ensure that the projects carried out are in accordance with the standards set and are perfect.

“Council members give some tender selection, but the same contractor is chosen with the same quotation.

“This needs to be changes and examined in more detail, not to just give it to cronies and there is no improvement in the work,” he told Selangor Kini.

The Petaling Jaya City Council, Suraise A/L Gengiah, said that there is still much to be improved in terms of local authority services, audit, governance and corruption.

“Local authorities and councillors need to foster unity and set a good example because we are dealing with the local community.

“In addition, we need to have an understanding about the practice of ethics and integrity that is right so that integrity becomes a culture in the lives of Malaysians,” he said.

The Deputy President of the Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM), Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, said that if a leader abuses power for their benefit, their families or their relatives, then it is categorised as a leader with no integrity.

“People have the right to demand from the government because leaders and government staff receive salaries from the taxes paid by the people.

“Naturally, leaders and civil servants need to discharge their responsibilities effectively and efficiently,” he said.
