Najib’s fate bleaker compared to Thaksin?

SHAH ALAM, 5 Oct: The future of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, is bleaker compared to the former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra, when he faces the risk of being arrested and charged in foreign countries due to international scandals implicating him.

The PKR Vice President, Tian Chua, said that Najib allegedly also violated the laws in some foreign countries that allow the authorities there to take legal action.

He said that Thaksin is ‘safer’ in exile compared to Najib who faces the risk of being arrested and charged abroad if he flees the country.

“He is different from Thaksin. Thaksin did not violate international laws, but was sentences in the Thai court for charges against his own country.

“This is different from what Najib did where it is likely that he broke laws in the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong and Switzerland. This is the difference between Najib and Thaksin.

This make it difficult for Najib if he has a plan to flee the country because he is safer in the country, especially if there is a guarantee from his successor that he will not be punished,” said Tian Chua to Selangor Kini.

He said that Najib also faces the risk of a commission scandal investigation in relation to the purchase of the Scorpene submarine in France, in addition to being linked to the 1MDB scandal.

In September 2006, Thaksin was ousted when he was speaking at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.

Thaksin then became a leader in exile in some foreign countries in order to avoid Thai court actions on corruption charges when he held office.
