“On September 2, the team will start training and this weekend we will have a brief retreat for the players to explain the intent of Selangor in Malaysia Cup,” he told Selangor Kini.

This year would be exactly 10 years since the Selangor football team launched Mission 33; a campaign to reclaim the Malaysia Cup which they have not won since 2005.

However, Mission 33, which was launched over the years to restore the image of the team that was a very formidable force once, is still unfulfilled.

When asked about the group draw, Amirudin said that it is not an easy route, however it is not impossible for the Red Giants to qualify for the finals, thus winning the title.

“It is not impossible to go to the finals or to become the champion, but much work has to be done. Therefore, we want to look back on the performance of players throughout the season and look at the teams that we will face.

“The group is rather balanced. If we look at the record of the meets with all teams, except T-Team, we have won, drawn and lost. We have to look into the opportunities available, the route is not easy,” he said.

He is also confident that after the 22 matches, the players have began to realise and rise to maintain their achievement.

“The momentum of the last four games must be maintained, we won three and drew one in the game. We will continue this momentum after the long holiday,” he said.

Selangor is in Group C with the former champions, Kelantan, Felda United and T-Team, while the first match of the group is scheduled to take place on September 11.
