Keep Zeti as BNM Governor for two more years

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 OCT: Pakatan Harapan (PAKATAN) has expressed support for Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz to remain as Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for two more years.

Support was expressed for her independent and impartial stance in handling the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) financial scandal, highlighting her ability to manage the financial affairs of the country.

Secretary-General, Rafizi Ramli, said the country is facing a leadership crisis and that the resignation of Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, would be able to restore the value of the ringgit.

“Now, the public has lost confidence. We need experienced people in order to end the economic crisis.

“Zeti does a good job except 1MDB. She needs to stay for the country’s economic performance to improve,” he said.

This was Rafizi’s response when answering a question as to the Opposition’s sudden support for Zeti Akhtar to remain as Governor of Bank Negara.

Measures to retain her as one of the initiatives to restore market confidence were expressed in PAKATAN’s Alternative Budget.

Zeti’s term ends in 13 April 2016.
