KUALA LUMPUR, July 11: The Ministry of Education has been urged to honour its promise to give special annual bonuses and performance payments to temporary teachers as set out in the 2013 Budget.
Kulai Member of Parliament, Te Nie Ching explained at a press conference at Parliament today that she had received complaints from three temporary teachers in her area who have yet to receive the payment for December last year and for January this year.
“When tabling the 2013 Budget, the Prime Minister promised that all eligible employees will receive one and a half month bonus.
“The payment is to be made three times; August and December last year and January this year.
“Unfortunately, three temporary teachers have not received the bonus payments for December 2012 and last January and hopefully, this will get the attention of the Education Minister and the Prime Minister to resolve it,” she said.
Teo said that they have checked with the Kulai District Education Office and found that there are still many temporary teachers who have not received the bonus.
She said that the government should keep promises made to the people.
She also feels that the government should provide equal pay to civil servants in conjunction to the Eid al-Fitr celebrations this year.
The three teachers who have not received their bonuses are Koh Xing Zhao, 22, Pang Chian Jien, 23, and Tan Lian Huay, 37, from SJKC Senai, Johor.
According to the Service Circular No. 12 2012, the one and a half month salary or RM1,500 minimum will be given in August 2012, December 2012 and January 2013. Those eligible are permanent officers, temporary officers, those with contract of service and temporary teachers.
