SHAH ALAM, 23 Feb: The granting of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) does not solve the increase in cost of living borne by those earning middle and low income.
The Chairman of the PKR Consumer’s Bureau, Yahya Shari, said that the aid is but a trick so that the people will not strongly feel the impact of rising prices of goods and services.
He said that the meagre amount in aid does not last long, while each citizen has to deal with the rising prices of goods every day.
“The BR1M only lasts a week. It does not solve anything. When the money runs out, the people will once again be faced with pressure. The government is not serious about wanting to help.
“In fact, not just a few applied for it. This proves that the Umno and Barisan Nasional government has failed to improve the economy and living standards of the people as they promised,” said Yahya, quoted from Keadilan Daily.
According to him, the granting of the BR1M is one-off in nature and proves the half-heartedness of the government in helping the people from being further burdened by economic pressures.
