Dengue: 25 Deaths in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, 3 Apr: A total of 25 deaths due to dengue in Selangor have been recorded since January to 29 March, according to the Selangor State Department of Health – www.jknselangor.moh.gov.my.

Of the total, Petaling and Hulu Langat recorded the highest percentage with eight deaths, followed by Klang (four), Gombak (three) and Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor (one each).

So far, the number of cases recorded throughout Selangor is 14,030 cases in the first quarter of this year.

Department resources reported an increase of 11,077 cases from 2,953 cases in the same period last year, a disturbingly sharp increase.

Petaling topped other districts with 5,888 cases, followed by Hulu Langat (3,531), Klang (2,218), Gombak (1,759), Kuala Langat (226), Hulu Selangor (134), Kuala Selangor (114), Sepang (87) and Sabak Bernam (73).

A total of 928 cases were recorded in the last week of the period, from 23 to 29 March.

The public has been asked to take necessary measures and to take care of hygiene by avoiding the outbreak of dengue.

The Selangor Health Department has also advised the public to cooperate by contacting the department or District Health Offices across Selangor to lodge a report.
