Avoid open burning, activities involving fire

SHAH ALAM, 27 Sept: Everyone has been advised to be cautious when performing activities, especially involving fire, in this uncertain and hazy weather.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that this should be avoided because it can lead to untoward incidents like fire.

“Just because of a cigarette butt, it could cause a fire. Presently, let us not conduct open burning,” she said in a press statement in September 26.

Dr Daroyah, together with the Selat Klang Assemblyman, Dr Halimah Ali, visited three families in Pulau Ketam, Klang, who are left homeless when their house burned down on September 12.

The state government, together with the Disaster Unit, the Klang District and Land Office, the Social Welfare Department, the Fire and Rescue Department went to present the contribution to the victims.

“Apart from monetary donations, we also delivered goods such as kitchen necessities including rice, cooking oil, sugar, sardines, mats, pillows, mats and blankets.

“It is informed that the incident came from a short circuit that happened at a house, causing fire to spread to two other nearby houses.We are grateful that the incident did not injure and result in casualties,” he said.

Dr Daroyah and the group also distributed masks to residents at the island that has been badly affected by the haze.
