Cases of violence against women increased, PWB helps

SHAH ALAM, 25 Sept: The state government, through the Women’s Empowerment Centre (PWB), always takes the issue of violence against women seriously.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that based on police statistics, 4,807 domestic violence cases were reported in 2014.

Attentive to the matter, Daroyah said that PWB organised safety briefing and women’s advocacy programme in collaboration with various agencies.

“It is alarming when the statistics of violence against women increased to 12 percent in the first four months of this year.

“For that, PWB is coming forward with a variety of programmes aimed at increasing the awareness of all parties to be more responsible in dealing with the problem so that it does not increase,” she said.

Previously, the Morib PWB organised a safety briefing and women’s advocacy programme on 23 September.

Through this programme, participants learned about getting help from the police, Hospitals, the Social Welfare Department, the Family Support Bureau and the Selangor Legal Aid Bureau.
