Car-Free Morning fosters a nature-loving community

SHAH ALAM, 6 Sept: 600 participants took part in the Car-Free Morning organised by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) today.

The programme that started at seven in the morning aimed to educate the community to love the environment by reducing carbon emissions, which is one of the causes of air pollution.

It began with a presentation from the Independent Living and Training Centre (ILTC) Rawang as a launch gimmick.

Over 500 Selayang residents took part in cycling, running and skating as a start of a healthy lifestyle in addition to reducing the use of motor vehicles.

There were two routes open. Cycling participants began at Dataran Bandar Baru Selayang through Jalan Persiaran 1 and ended at Bulatan Siantan before returning to Bandar Baru Selayang.

Meanwhile for walking, skating and skateboard participants, they passed through Bulatan Siantan, Pinggiran Templer, Puncak Templer up to the Petron petrol station and ended at Dataran Bandar Baru Selayang.

The programme is also included in the ‘Jom Sihat’ slot by showcasing a Senior Lecturer from the Exercise Department, the University of Malaya (UM), Dr Eliza Hafiz.

Also present was the Exco for Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agriculture Modernisation and Agro-Based Industries, Zaidy Abdul Talib; The MPS Yang Dipertua, Sulaiman Abd Rahman; and the MPS Councillor Dato’ Paduka Raja Datuk Wan Mahmood Pa’Wan Teh.
