Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup to unearth talent

SHAH ALAM, 27 Aug: The second Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup Football Championship starting September 5 to October 4 will see a total of 576 players below 18 years of age representing 32 secondary schools from nine districts.

Dato’ Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Petaling (Orang Besar Daerah), Datuk Emran Kadir, said that the championship would hopefully unearth talented teenage football players to be absorbed into the Selangor team.

“Therefore, on the advice of the Sultan of Selangor, the organising committee is working hard to expand the tournament this time to all areas of Selangor,” said Emran.

The tournament is in collaboration with the Selangor Education Department together with the Petaling Perdana District Education Office (PPD), PPD Petaling Utama and Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad (Perangsang Selangor).

Prior to that, the trophy was presented by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, to the Championship Chairman at Istana Kayangan in Shah Alam.

The cup is a personal contribution from the Sultan of Selangor as a sign of support and his desire to see the progress of football.

At the same event, the Sultan of Selangor also witnessed the presentation of the RM250,000 cheque by Perangsang Selangor as the main sponsor of the Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup Football Championship and the DYTM Raja Muda Selangor Sup Football Championship to the Championship Chairman.

Attractive prizes await the four best teams of the championship with the champion receiving a cash prize of RM10,000, together with medals and a trophy.

The runner-up will receive RM7,000 and medals. Third place will receive RM5,000, while fourth place will receive RM3,000, medals and certificates.

The eight teams qualified for the quarter finals will receive jerseys sponsored by Kumpulan Perangsang.
