Local authorities need to be creative in combating Aedes

SHAH ALAM, 23 Sept: The local authorities have to be more creative in attracting the attention of the people to participate in ensuring that the environment is free from Aedes in the effort to combat dengue.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSP) has been carrying out educational programmes such as the formation of the Dengue Action Community (DAC), the Dengue Action Kids (DAK) and the Aedes-Free School Bus (BATAS) to raise public awareness.

“Such programme are able to attract the interest and attention of the people to participate in the effort to ensure that the environment remains free from Aedes breeding grounds.

“The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has taken the initiative to organise the Dengue Advocacy Movement programme about the dangers of dengue by advising from house to house and to involve various groups, including community leaders, volunteers and students,” he said in a press statement.

In addition, he said that the state government will channel additional allocations to all local authorities to double efforts through special projects on awareness and education involving the community and local residents.

“Recently, the state government launched the Mobile Apps Denggi as a smart application that displays dengue data on a weekly basis.

“This application has been implemented by the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and received positive response from the public when they were able to obtain latest information on the dengue situation in their respective areas directly,” he said.

Prior to that, it is understood that the deaths in Selangor continued to rise to 101 and Petaling recorded the highest total number with 36 deaths, Hulu Langat (23), Klang (15), Gombak (13), Sepang (7), Kuala Langat (3), while Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor each had two deaths as of September 19.

Meanwhile, in the 37th epid week, four districts that continue to show the highest number of dengue cases are Petaling (20,164 kes), Hulu Langat (11,282 kes), Klang (6,071 kes) and Gombak (5,330).
