PKNS to launch 5,833 units of affordable housing

SHAH ALAM, 3 AUG: A total of 5,833 affordable housing units will be launched by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) nationwide this year.

PKNS Public Relations Manager, Ishak Hashim, said that this is in line with the State’s development programme agenda to provide affordable and comfortable housing to the people.

“PKNS is currently focused on the construction of affordable housing specifically for low- and middle-income groups.

“This project aims to help Selangorians own their own houses at affordable prices, particularly the low- and middle-income groups,” he said in a statement.

He said that PKNS has so far successfully developed 1,977 units of affordable housing in some areas such as Taman Selayang Mutiara, Bandar Baru Bangi, Section U12 Shah Alam, Antara Gapi and Kota Puteri.

“The affordable houses are branded as PKNS Selangorku Dream Homes that are subsidised by commercial projects or high-cost housing corporations,” he said.

At the same time, Ishak said that PKNS has built more than 150,000 housing units of various types since its inception on 1 August 1964.

He said that PKNS has also built more low- and medium-cost houses than the limit set based on the planning permission.

The development quota that was set is for 20 percent low cost houses, 20 percent for low-middle cost houses and 10 percent for middle cost units, while the rest are high cost houses.

“Examples of areas that exceed the quota are Shah Alam (32.8 per cent of low-cost housing and 51.8 per cent of medium-cost housing), Bangi (23.2 per cent of low-cost housing and 54.6 per cent of medium-cost housing), and Ampang- Ulu Klang (23.3 per cent of low-cost housing and 73.8 per cent of medium-cost housing),” he said.
