SELANGOR

Port Klang the second busiest in ASEAN

PORT KLANG, 4 Oct: Selangor is able to maintain its position as the major contributor to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) if it can provide fully-equipped logistic facilities for the convenience of local and foreign investors.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this position will continue to be maintained, especially in the state’s favourable investment growth conditions.

“It is to be noted that Selangor is the main gateway to Malaysia for investors and foreign direct investors (FDI). We must also remember that Selangor is the main contributor to the country’s GDP.

“Today, Selangor contributes 25 percent to the GDP and is responsible for ensuring that this contribution is maintained in our effort to record sustainable and confident performance in the future.

“Selangor is supported by two international airports, has the second busiest port in ASEAN and the 13th in the world.

“In fact, the network of highways and railways connecting Port Klang to the rest of Peninsular Malaysia further strengthens the state as a major logistics hub,” he said yesterday.

Mohamed Azmin said that Port Klang on average is capable of handling nine million TEU of containers each year, proving the importance of the logistics industry in the country’s import and export business.

“The state government recognises that the logistics industry is one of the critical sectors that should be given attention in order to ensure that Selangor’s economic development continued to grow positively,” he said.
