MBI channels RM35,000 for Nepal earthquake victims

KATHMANDU, June 3: RM35,000 was allocated by the Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) to help earthquake victims in Nepal in April.

The MBI Corporate and Social Responsibility Department Chief, Mohd Jaafar Farudin Md Ali, said that the aid will be given in the form of food needs as well as zinc to improve the residents’ homes.

He said that it is in line with the MBI charity mission to help those in need regardless of borders, race or religion.

“We are very concerned about the welfare of those in need even though I was assigned to take care of and focus on Selangor in particular, but MBI will move one step further in holding a humanitarian mission.

“This is the first time we organised a charitable and missionary mission outside Selangor and Malaysia. Hopefully, it can run smoothly in the future,” he told Selangor Kini.

The Humanitarian Aid Mission to Nepal was organised by MBI in collaboration with the non-governmental organisations (NGO), Muslim Care Malaysia Society, which has a worldwide network.

Among the areas visited were Bhaktapur, Kaleswor and Lalitpur.

At the same time, Jaafar said that the mission is not only concerned about welfare, but also missionary elements.

He said that the residents who are grieving due to the disaster are given strength so that they can know Islam better.

“Hopefully, with our presence, they can see how prayers are conducted and they can mingle without feeling awkward.

“I hope that MBI will be more focused in proving that we do not just focus on worldly affairs or profit, but also distribute profit to those who are being tested by disasters,” he said.
