Anti-cross protest: Professionally investigate, regardless of family members

SHAH ALAM, 31 May: The government and police should act professionally in resolving the anti-cross protest in front of a church in Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya, recently.

The Exco for Islamic Affairs, Malay Customs, Rural and Traditional Village Development, Datuk Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that this is important in maintaining racial harmony in this country.

“This matter should be investigated professionally despite involving family members, siblings or anyone connected/ Decisions made must also be fair to all because it involves public interest,” he told Selangor Kini.

Ahmad Yunus also proposed the establishment of a neutral committee to achieve the best solution, in fact the government must give serious attention because it involves racial and religious sensitivities.

“Maybe the decision has been made and resolved. But it should be ended prudently and fairly so that it does not cause problems later on,” he said.

Prior to this, Malaysia Kini reported that the government found no offence in the statement by the Inspector General of Police, tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, that the issue is not seditious but the police is classifying it as building trespassing.

The protest sparked public outrage when one of the participants is the brother of Khalid, Datuk Abdullah Abu Bakar, and it was also joined by Umno members in the area.
