Local council members urged to often conduct walkabouts

SHAH ALAM, 5 June: Members of local authorities need to improve the quality and transparency of governance to provide the best service to the community.

The Selangor State Government Secretary, Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi, said that council members are urged to regularly conduct walkabouts to meet with the people.

“Poor service will have a negative impact from the community in daily development and will be shown in the votes in the next election,” said Khusrin.

He said this during the Integrity Strengthening and Good Governance Programme with local authority members today.

Khusrin said that the Integrity Strengthening and Good Governance Programme is in line with the Institute of Integrity Malaysia (IIM), together with the Integrity Unit, State Government Secretary’s Office, to strengthen the service delivery system effectively.

He said that to achieve that, councillors have to play a role in providing services in line with customer requirements.

“It is so that an inclusive plan can be implemented to ensure that development, prosperity and harmony of the community if guaranteed at the municipal and district levels.

“The people are also increasingly aware and discerning about their rights and often demand the benefits they deserve,” he said.
