CM: Ulamas & scholars should speak up on the Tabung Haji issue

SHAH ALAM, 13 May: Leader or trustees in public interest organisations must take an exemplary attitude shown by Khalifah Umar Abdul Aziz in keeping national treasures for the benefit of the people.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this includes using the trust fund for personal gain or to bail out certain companies, including the Tabung Haji depositors’ money.

He said that the people have their respective roles to ensure that the administration of a mandated government can be carried out.

“Ulama, scholars, Islamic movement leaders and the people in general must dare to ask; and we have a responsibility to ensure prudent management and administration.

“The people, especially Muslims, should demand for an honest and open explanation so that those responsible for betraying this trust must resign and be brought to justice.

“Until now, no one responsible for this scandal has been brought to justice and as long as forensic auditing is not done, we cannot identify the dirty hands that betrayed depositors,” said Mohamed Azmin.

He said this during the opening of the launch of the “Khalifah Umar Abdul Aziz” book by Dr Ali Muhammad As-Shallabi at the Concorde Hotel today.

Mohamed Azmin said that the Selangor administration is ready to learn from Reform and values in administration and governance led by Umar Abdul Aziz in order to elevate the dignity of the people.

“As the most advanced state, we have a responsibility of providing competent leadership to manage the economy that ensures social justice and the prosperity of the state,” he said.
