Sg Kempas pollution case referred to LUAS for follow-up action

SHAH ALAM, 13 May: The water pollution case at Sungai Kempas due to the Closed Poultry Building Construction Project has been referred to the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) for follow-up action, said the Kuala Kubu Bharu Assemblyman, Lee Kee Hiong.

She said that the project which is being developed in Mukim Kerling is feared of inviting the risk of flooding due to the felling of trees and leveling of the hill.

“The letter about the river pollution has been sent to the Director of LUAS, the Chief Minister and related departments.

“I cannot prevent any development that can improve the people’s living standards and develop Selangor. But this project is more detrimental to the environment and even the residents,” she said.

The chicken coop project received opposition by the local residents because the river became turbid with mud, especially during rainy days.

Selangor Kini understands that the Sungai Kempas connects to Sungai Kerling and Sungai Selangor, and is also close to the Batang Berjuntai Water Plant.

“Survey found that the construction of the chicken coop did not provide a waste water catchment area before being channelled into the creek.

“The water catchment area and the river here are being promoted for Eco Tourism, so river pollution due to development projects like this is regrettable,” he said.

Previously, the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) issued a directive to the project developer to stop work at the site temporarily until they received feedback from the state government.
