ORS technology used to combat dengue

SHAH ALAM, 1 Apr: The Outdoor Residual Spray (ORS) technology will be applied in the effort to reduce the spread of dengue in Selangor, which is now being studied before being extended to the whole state.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women’s Affairs and Family, Dr Daroyah Alwo (PKR-Sementa) said that so far, the ORS technology is being implemented in the districts of Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat and Klang.

“The state government is also ready to accept proposals of new technologies to prevent dengue,” she said when answering a verbal question from Ng Tien Chee (DAP-Balakong) regarding the use of new technologies to tackle dengue.

ORS is an Aedes prevention method through spraying smoke on the walls of premises and can last for three months and mosquitoes also die easily with this method.

For the record, 63 out of 71 areas in the districts of Petaling, Hulu Langet, Gonbak and Klang showed a reduction in cases after using the ORS.
