PPAS targets 2.5 million to participate in Let’s Read 10 minutes

SHAH ALAM, 23 Apr: The Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) targets over 2.5 million entries from across the state in the Let’s Read Together For 10 Minutes programme.

Its Director, Mastura Muhamad, said that 14 state libraries are taking part in the programme this time, including the National Library.

She said that Selangor recorded the highest participation last year with 610,000 from across the state, including government departments and agencies, private business premises and schools.

“We want all districts to be involved in this programme because it is beneficial to the community and sparks interest in reading.

“With the involvement of the National Library, we are confident that the number of participants for this programme will increase to over 2.5 million” she said during the programme today.

Starting last year, PPAS, with 13 public state libraries under the Malaysian Public Libraries Directors Council, launched the programme simultaneously throughout the country.

At the same time, 15 libraries were being built with nine of them having been completed and four others will be ready in a month.

Two other rural libraries are being upgraded in Sepang and are expected to be fully operational from June.

“We will ask for a budget from the state government to build and upgrade libraries in several districts and encourage private companies or government agencies to assist,” she said.
