CM: Nurul Izzah arrested, MPs freedom to debate is lost

SHAH ALAM, 17 Mar: The detention of the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, Nurul Izzah Anwar, clearly proves that MPs now have lost the freedom to debate in Parliament to voice the people’s voices.

The Chief Minster, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the move is unjust, dishonest and undemocratic.

“I understand that the arrest was made to pressure Izzah regarding the speech in Parliament.

“So, where is the freedom of MPs if the government uses the police as an agent to suppress the people and their representatives?

“The Prime Minister is responsible to explain where the transformation which he has been bragging about all this time is,” he told reporters after attending the State Government Departments’ Monthly Assembly this morning.

He was asked to comment on the arrest of the Pantai Dalam PM yesterday under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act following her speech in Parliament on March 10.

Nurul Izzah was released by the police at 12.20 pm without remand.
