CM: Residents of PPRs still enjoy rental rates as low as RM110

SHAH ALAM, 8 Mar: The residents of Public Housing Projects (PPRs) in Selangor still enjoy rental rates as low as RM110 until now and the rates will not be increased in the near future.

The Chief Minster, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that some guidelines such as household income and the number of dependents will be taken into account in the determination of rental rates.

“I have informed the housing board to give special attention to the applications of those with low incomes with a rental rate of RM124.

“We cannot allow low rent to those with higher incomes, otherwise it would not be fair to other Selangorians.

“Those who can afford it will be charged a rent of RM240,” he told reporters shortly after the Malaysian Women Marathon 2015 today.

He answered that allegations by the opposition saying that the state government rose the rental rates at the Kota Damansara PPR, burdening the people, is not true.

Elaborating, Mohamed Azmin said that residents should join together to cover the management costs to ensure that the housing is well maintained.

“It is like the cost of garbage and solid waste cleaning, elevator facilities and other maintenance costs,” he said.
