Orderly planning, no water rationing in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, 4 Mar: Early preparation implemented by the state government will not pose the problem of water rationing in Selangor despite facing a drought at the moment.

The Chairman of the national Water Services Commission (SPAN), Datuk Ismail Kassim, said that programmes being carried out by the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), together with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), are running smoothly and there are no plans for water rationing at the moment.

“LUAS has already conducted studies and recorded the water readings at dams. So far, there would probably not be water rationing in Selangor.

“The Hybrid Off-River Augmentation System (HORAS) and several other projects also show good results,” he told Selangor Kini today.

Ismail said that they expect that there will not be a problem and the situation is under control, based on planning until the end of March.

“The condition in Selangor is still under control with readings at dams not being alarming. However, we are cautious against unforeseen circumstances,” he said.
