KLANG, 9 Mar: Package 4 of the Sungai Selangor Phase Three (SSP3) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Scheme that involves supplying and installing steel pipes from Jalan Landasan to the water tank in Bukit Lipat Kajang, Klang, is expected to be fully completed on July 6, 2015.
The Exco for Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-Based Industries, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that the project is part of Phase 2 of the Mitigation Project that will distribute treated water at a capacity of up to 29 million litres per day (MLD) to consumers in the Klang district.
He said that the project that begun implementation last year at a construction cost of RM29 million is now at 34.7 percent in terms of physical progress.
“We will look at the work status of the Mitigation II project related to package 4 due to the increase in demand for treated water in Selangor each year for domestic, industrial and commercial use.
“All planning at the state government and federal government levels begun since 2012 to ensure the adequate of raw water supply and we are researching the potential for existing water treatment plants to increase in its production capacity to the maximum level.
“This project has been agreed upon at the central government level where provisions have been approved for the state government in 2013 for its implementation,” he said during a press conference in Klang today.
Zaidy said that the 57 kilometre pipeline was largely built of government reserve land and is designed to avoid traffic congestion and existing utilities.
Regarding the pipeline that enters private areas, he said that the state government will take action to minimise troubling the public while ensuring the continued smooth running of the project.
“There have been complaints and objections about the work being performed, so at the state government level, we will ensure that disruption in terms of traffic for the residents can be reduced.
“The state government will look into problems at the site, not by receiving information, but we will personally look into it.
“All issues raised will go back to the Selangor Economic Supreme Council (MTES) to be decided during the Exco meeting,” he said.
