Stern action taken against those who contaminated Sg Semenyih WTP

SHAH ALAM, 3 Mar: Stern action will be imposed against those who caused the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to stop operations at 5.15 pm today due to contamination.

The Exco for Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that the Water Source Pollution Team, led by the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), together with the Department of Environment (DOE) and the South Selangor Water Supply Distribution Consortium (ABASS), are conducting immediate investigations to identify the sources of the contamination.

“The rate of raw water pumping at the plant will first be reduced from 682 million litres per day (MLD) to 409 MLD,” he said in a press statement.

Prior to this, LUAS received an alert from ABASS on the reduction of the pH levels and the increase of manganese and ammonia parameters at Sungai Semenyih at 3.15 this evening.

The raw water reading recorded a pH level of 5.65, ammonia at 1.60 ppm and manganese at 1.51 ppm. Reading raw water had a rate of 5.65 pH, ammonia at 1.60 ppm and Mangan at 1:51 ppm.
