SHAH ALAM, 5 Feb: The Selangor Children’s Heritage Fund (Tawas) will intensify efforts to track down children born in this state who are eligible to be registered under the programme.
Its Assistant Director, Kee Abidin Hairum, said that they are targeting 35,000 Selangor-born children to be registered as Tawas members (SiManja) throughout 2015.
“We managed to register over 30,000 Selangor-born children in 2014, which exceeded the initial target of 25,000.
“Based on the achievement record, we target 35,000 Selangor-born children to be registered and hopefully the number of registrations done at the end of the year exceeds the target,” he told Selangor Kini.
Kee said that they are expanding promotions throughout Selangor through several methods, including through Facebook, registration counters at shopping malls and government agencies.
“We will also try to collaborate with government hospitals to open registration counters, but so far, these efforts have not yet succeeded.
“However, we are still able to increase the number of registrations. As a result of the promotions we have carried out, parents are now more aware and many of them visit the constituency offices and the Tawas headquarters to register their children,” he said.
Tawas in an assistance programme under the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) agenda, specifically for Selangor-born children with a contribution of RM1,500 that can be claimed when they reach 18 years of age.
Throughout its operations from 2008 to February 4 this year, it has been recorded that 192,023 Selangor-born children applied and 167,663 children were successfully registered as SiManjas from the total number of applications.
Prior to this, 21,298 Tawas members born in 2008 received vouchers worth RM50 for school assistance through additional provisions of over RM1 million from the state government.
