Dengue: Selangor sends volunteers to help hospitals

SHAH ALAM, 25 Feb: The state government will send volunteers to help hospitals and patients due to the growing issue of dengue.

Health Exco, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the proactive measure is being taken due to lack of manpower at hospitals, especially the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang.

She said that the volunteers involved will help smoothen the process of receiving patients at the emergency area and to wait and distribute food and drinks.

“Due to shortage of manpower, patients have to wait a long time in the waiting room or emergency room.

“Meanwhile, they have to be given food and drink, especially to prevent patients’ suffering from getting worse,” she said in a press conference at the SUK Building.

Daroyah said that the proposal is in the process of negotiation with the hospitals.

“We hope that hospitals will accept this proposal because patients have to wait up to three hours to get a bed,” she said.

She also informed that so far, surplus dengue patients are sent to the Banting Hospital and to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“At HTAR so far, there are two additional wards with 150 beds provided.

“We have no excess number of patients, but HTAR is not refusing anyone. Instead, they are sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment,” she said.
