CM: Plan your journey, observe the road rules to avoid accidents

SHAH ALAM, 14 Feb: The drive safely campaign does not promise a reduction in the rate of road accidents if it is not preceded by high awareness among the users.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali, demanded for each road user to be more courteous and considerate when on the road.

This is because most road accidents are caused by drivers take road rules lightly.

“We hope that road users can plan their journey by ensuring all aspects have been taken into account before starting their trip.

“Obey road rules, be courteous and considerate when driving. It all needs to start with the driver in ensuring a safe journey to your destination,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the Opening Ceremony of the Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, organised by the state government at the Batu Tiga Toll Plaza today.

Also present was the Chairman of the Selangor Road Safety Council (MKJR), Datuk Mohamed Khusrin Munawi, and the Mayor of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Datuk Zaharin Mohd Saad.

During the event, Mohamed Azmin distributed helmets and safety jackets to several motorcyclists and handed leaflets advocating the road safety campaign to users at the Touch n Go lane.

With the theme of ‘Consideration on the road, avoid taking lives’, the state government’s initiative is specifically aimed at promoting awareness to road users, especially motorcyclists, to use helmets that are certified according to the standards set.
