AMPANG, 6 Feb: The Prime Minister (PM), Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has not shown seriousness in combating racial and religious extremism in this country, as it is done in Selangor.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this is because Najib’s call for the people of this country to reject extremist ideologies failed to be followed by stern action to combat it.
“When the PM’s call had no effect, it should be translated into action. I have given my commitment to Selangor by giving absolutely no room for extremism, fanaticism and racism in the Selangor state administration.
“I hope that the federal government will also take stern decisions to ensure that Malaysia develops and gives fair treatment to all, regardless of religious background, race and culture,” said Mohamed Azmin.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the closing of the 12th International Youth Gathering here at the Flamingo Hotel today.
Mohamed Azmin explained that failure to curb extremism is capable of affecting the harmony and prosperity of this country’s people.
Instead, he called on the people of this country to be prepared with w high spirit of unity, regardless of religion, race or political beliefs, to face the tough global economic challenges in 2015.
