New system introduced to fix waste collection management

SHAH ALAM, 6 Feb: A new system and mechanism is being developed to improve the existing management system in Selangor.

The Exco for Local Government, Ean Yong Hian Wah, said that the new system being carried out by the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) would be able to bring about new reforms, especially regarding the issue of waste collection.

“This is because we realise that there are some weaknesses in the issue of cleaning and it needs improvement that is more effective.

“We will announce this new system and mechanism when everything is complete and ready to be implemented,” he told Selangor Kini.

He was asked to comment on the state government’s efforts to ensure that the goal to make Selangor the cleanest state this year.

At the same time, he stressed that the provisions given the local authorities at the end of 2014 was used for illegal waste management.

“However, local authorities have also launched several major efforts to solve the issue of clogged drains and illegal waste heaps,” he added.

In October 2014, the state government approved additional allocation amounting to RM20 million for waste management at all local authority areas.
