Selangor drafting latest mechanism to help PWDs with job opportunities

SHAH ALAM, 8 Jan: The Selangor government, through the Health, Welfare, Women’s and Family Affairs portfolio, is drafting a mechanism to help the disabled (PWDs) obtain a place in the national job market.

The Executive Councillor in charge of this portfolio, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the effort is being seen as a good move after she made visit to Kagumas College & Hospitality in Bangi.

The culinary college opened its culinary training to PWDs with learning difficulties and has so far managed to produce excellent graduates in the job market.

“I see it as being able to help disabled children who have trouble learning to obtain employment with skills such as being a chef.

“That is the plan which we will exercise under the welfare portfolio,” she told Selangor Kini.

She said that the forms of disability are not physical, but more towards diseases such as dyslexia and autism.

Daroyah said that the state government has asked Kagumas to submit a proposal for consideration before any decision is made.

“Among the forms of assistance that can be provided by the state government is fees as high fees makes it difficult for parents to send their children to have the opportunity to learn.

“Such opportunities would hopefully open room for parents to send their children to obtain education, thus enabling them to adapt in the field of employment,” she said.
