Floods in Pahang, Johor and Selangor remain unchanged

SHAH ALAM, 29 Dec: The flood situation in Kelantan, Pahang, Johor and Selangor remained unchanged with the number of victims at evacuation centres in Pahang remaining with 33,225 people, Johor 328 and Selangor 33, compared to this morning.

As of 3pm, there was no latest information obtained about the number of flood victims in Kelantan except for the 151,072 people recorded this morning.

In PAHANG, places affected by floods were Temerloh (12,012), Kuantan (3,046), Pekan (4,873), Maran (3,479), Jerantut (6,025), Bera (1,491) and Lipis (2,299).

In JOHOR, the state flood operations centre said 328 flood victims from 84 families were placed at nine flood relief centres in Muar, Batu Pahat, Segamat and Kluang.

In SELANGOR, 33 flood victims from several villages in Klang have been housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Binjai.

In Terengganu the state National Security Council (MKN) said more than 500 of the 21,738 flood victims in Kemaman have been allowed to return home but other areas remained unchanged, especially Dungun 10,138, Hulu Terengganu (149) and Kuala Terengganu (759).

In PERAK, the number of victims evacuated in Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Perak Tengah and Kerian as of this afternoon went down by a little to 7,540 people compared to 7,813 this morning.

In Perak a MKN spokesman said Perak Tengah registered 4,132 flood victims, Kuala Kangsar, including Sungai Siput (2,371), Hulu Perak (788) and Kerian (293).

Meanwhile, the Kelantan state flood operations portal said the water level at Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Golok remained above the danger level.

Kelantan Government today set up a committee to assist flood victims in the country worst hit.

The Chief Minister, Datuk Ahmad Yakob, said that the committee he is chairing will record details regarding flood victims involved in addition to reviewing follow-up work that needs to be done after the disaster.

The committee also comprises of all State Government Executive Councillors, State Officers, State Finance Officers, State Development Office, all State and Federal Department Heads, representatives of Parliamentarians, and the Assemblymen of Manek Urai, Kuala Krai and Galas, Gua Musang.

Datuk Ahmad said that he has also established the Kelantan State Flood Disaster Trust Fund to help flood victims in the state.
