SHAH ALAM, 1 Jan: The Selangor government is disappointed as the Perak government refused to accept the RM100,000 donation to ease the burden of flood victims in the state.
The Exco for Women’s Affairs and Welfare, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the Perak government’s stance is clearly different with that of Terengganu and Pahang, despite being administered by the Barisan Nasional (BN) party.
She said that the narrow political principles should be set aside in difficult times like the floods at the moment.
“Like in Terengganu, we informed that the funds will be managed by non-governmental organisations (NGOs); a mature and correct way.
“Unfortunately, Perak is not willing to accept. Perhaps the amount is small, but that should not be the question because we want to show the solidarity of the Selangor people with flood victims,” she told Selangor Kini.
In relation to Perak’s stance, Daroyah said that the Selangor government cannot pursue further in delivering the donation to the state.
However, the Selangor PANTAS team will still be dispatched to help volunteers, especially in areas hit hard like Kuala Kangsar.
“At the moment, we still have no decision on how the donation can be channeled to the flood victims in Perak. Perhaps we will channel it to NGOs, but everything will be decided by the Chief Minister’s office,” she said.
Earlier, the Selangor government, led by Chief Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, visited states affected by floods to deliver donations amounting to RM1 million (Kelantan) and RM100,000 respectively to Pahang and Terengganu.
