PWD should be taken into consideration in the waves of development

KUALA LANGAT, 5 Nov: The PWD Carnival organised by the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL), which was held recently for the first time, clearly received unexpected response with an encouraging number of participants.

The President of MDKL, Mohd Azhar Mohamed Ali, said that the organisation of the carnival proves that MDKL never marginalised those with disabilities.

He said that PWDs are also entitled to opportunities received by other people.

“They should be brought to the centre of development and should not be hidden or marginalised, and then becoming spectators and passengers in the community.

“The involvement and cooperation of all parties, whether the government or the private sector, is needed to develop PWDs.

“The responsibility to develop PWDs should be shouldered by all levels of society,” he said.

The carnival, which took place on November 1, among others, highlighted the bocce contest, which is similar to petanque, and lawn bowling.

Participants also had the opportunity to participate in the football contest, which became the arena to select players who will represent Malaysia in the 1st Special Olympics World Cup 11 A Side Unified Team 2015.

In addition to the two main events, there was also a colouring contest, flour blowing coconut bowling, biscuit eating, filling water into bottles and carrying ping pong balls in a spoon.

At the same time, Azhar urged PWDs to boldly come forward to seize the many opportunities available to them.

“People from all walks of life are urged to register their disabled children or family members to the Department of Social Welfare.

“It is hoped that the private sector will also come forward to help PWDs in terms of giving them opportunities to participate in skills training and employment opportunities,” he added.
