KUALA LUMPUR, 23 Nov: The owners of the Jalan Jelatek Flats were disappointed when they were not given proper defense from the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) in the Datum Jelatek development issue.
This is contrary to the situation of residents who have been inhabiting government land illegally but given resettlement in the area near the land they were previously settling on.
The residents’ representative, Fadhilah Saharain, said that the owners of the PKNS Jalan Jelatek Flats that bought their residential units legally with their own hard work may be evacuated by using the Land Acquisition Act.
“If it was Kampung Berembang, many people came forward to help until the settlers were given one to two units being developed by developers but those of us who bought units with our own hard work are to be kicked out?
“When this flat was developed, they begged us to buy but when we are no longer needed, they want us to leave when there are many among us who have to finished paying our bank loans,” said Fadhilah who bought the flat unit in 1980.
Fadhilah said this in front of about 100 residents at the Datum Jelatek issue Information Event.
She stressed that some parties had brought up the Kampung Berembang issue and some other squatter villages are hypocrites when they kept silent in the issue involving the placement of Malays in the area.
Fadhillah said that she bought the home she owns now at a discounted price of RM19,000 compared to the original price of RM25.000 because she was an original inhabitant of the area.
Fadhillah also thinks that those who want to relocate the original inhabitants of the area to an area outside Keramat is unfair given that they are original inhabitants of Keramat.
Apart from Fadhilah, there are 15 original inhabitants who still stay at the flat.
