Flood: MPS cleans waste, drain sand in Selayang Baru

SHAH ALAM, 19 Nov: The flood problem experienced by some villages in Selayang Baru recently is expected to be resolved after the clearing of storm drains is carried out.

The Exco for Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-based Industry, who is also the Assemblyman for Taman Templer, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that the clean-up will be carried out by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) in the near future.

“During our visit, we found that the water was not flowing smoothly because of the rubbish ans also the sand which has not been cleared.

“MPS will begin the clean-up as soon as possible and the Assemblymen’s office will monitor the work so that it is carried out smoothly,” said Zaidy when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

Azidy said that the attitude treating drains and rivers like rubbish bins do not only pollute the environment, but is also one of the causes of flooding.

On November 17, Zaidy and the Zone 3 Council Member, Mohd Fauzan Madlan; the Taman Templer Community Service Centre Manager, Norjan Ismail and the MPS Engineering Department Officer took a look at drains around Selayang Baru that are often clogged, causing floods.

The visit was also joined by the Village Head of Kampung Selayang Indah and the Village Head of Kampung Selayang Baru.

Prior to this, about 200 houses around Kampung Selayang Baru were affected when it was hit by flash floods following heavy rains recently.
