Refuses to be spat on by offspring later in life, enforcement officer rejects RM10k bribe

SEPANG, 2 Oct: The act of accepting bribes is not just wrong from the religious and legal point of view, but the action is also detrimental to the citizens of today and the future.

The Enforcement Officer from the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp), Hairol Azman Razali, did not hesitate to reject an outright cash bribe of RM10,000 which was offered to him by an operator of an illegal cyber cafe gambling centre.

The offer was made shortly after Hairol Azman and 60 enforcement officers arrived at the location of the raid to conduct operations against an illegal cyber cafe gambling centre named Ops Dadu at Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi yesterday.

“He met me and asked me to go to a nearby restaurant to pass me RM10,000, but if I received it, not only will I not be safe in the afterlife but my income to support my family will also not be blessed.

“I work and live family, God willing, I will retire here and of course I do not want the children of our generation who grow up here to be caught in situations like this if we are not decisive.

“I do not want my offspring to spit on my face and ask why I was not assertive and accepted bribe to a point where they and their children are affected,” said Harol Azan shortly after the operation completed.

He explained that this was emphasised to all members of MPSp to remind them of the responsibility entrusted to them and the adverse effects of corruption on religion, race and country.

Hairol added that honesty that is instilled in each MPSp enforcement officer is one of the key factors that areas under MPSp’s administration are free from prostitution nests and karaoke centres.

“This is an on-going effort where we do not wait for there to be many before we take action. As long as it increases by a little, we stop it at the early stages and for karaoke centres, as soon as there is an offence, we will not hesitate to take decisive action,” added Hairol Azman.

However, Hairol Azman said that illegal gambling centres are difficult to be contained because the operators are daring in taking risks of being raided because they are able to make profit many times over compared to the punishment imposed.

“Gambling centres will continue to exist as long as there is demand, but we will try our best and hope that the people stay away from the habit of gambling,” Hairol Azan added.

Meanwhile, when the enforcement officers were busy carrying out the equipment seized during the operation, two men around their 50s were seen prostrating on the road near an enforcement truck which was there.

Hairol told Selangor Kini that the actions of the two men are believed to be parishioners from a nearby Surau and that they were gracious and happy when the gambling centres near their homes were raided.
