50,000 people of various races celebrate the Bon Odori Festival

SHAH ALAM, 21 Sept: The Bon Odori Festival which is celebrated every year in Malaysian was celebrated in liveliness and fun with almost 50000 visitors of all races from across the country.

Despite heavy rain during the festival, it did not prevent the people to have fun with Japanese-style activities.

By wearing the summer Kimono called the Yukata and wooden sandals, everyone present did not miss out on the opportunity to relax with their families and friends.

Held at the National Sports Complex (Panasonic Sports Complex) field in Section 21, Shah Alam, tens of thousands of visitors gathered here every year to appreciate the culture and art of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Through music from the beating of gongs, drums and flutes, the National Sports Complex immediately brought about the aura of a mega dance festival.

With a group of dancers dressed in Yukata and wooden sandals, a special stage known as the Yagura was built in the middle of stadium inviting visitors to follow the rhythm of the music with the performers.

Apart from traditional dances, visitors also did not miss out on the opportunity to savour Japanese delicacies including Unagi Don or eel with rich, as well as sushi.

In addition to that, delicacies like ice kacang, soft drinks and ice-cream from Japan were also sold at the festival.

Also present to enliven the festival was the Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

In Japanese, Odori means dance while Bon is the abbreviation for the name of a Buddhist text, Ullambana Sutra.
