Emulate Sweden in addressing dengue by educating the people

SHAH ALAM, 25 Nov: The dengue problem needs to be addressed holistically through education and not confined to mere prevention programmes.

The Assemblyman for Sri Andalas, Dr Xavier Jayakumar, said that this has been proven in Sweden through a significant allocation to educate their people.

“If we want to eliminate Aedes and end the dengue problem altogether through mere prevention programmes, we can only dream.

“So, we need education like Sweden’s move, where they tried many ways, and finally allocate huge funds to educate the people, which worked,” said Xavier during the DNS session.

Xavier also proposed the roles of several Exco members in shaping awareness programmes by educating in the collective effort of the state government in combating dengue.

“We might begin educating efforts by focusing on some roles of Exco members.

“For example, the Exco for Education, the Health Exco and the Environment Exco can work together for that purpose,” suggested the former Health Exco.
