SHAH ALAM, 13 Oct: The Selangor Water Supply Company (SYABAS) informed that the four affected water treatment plants (WTP) from the hydrocarbon spill is functioning again.
The General Manager of the Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Department, Priscilla Alfred, said that the water supply in most of the affected areas is expected to be fully recovered in stages, starting 8 am today.
“However, high areas and the end of the distribution system are expected to recover in at least three days.
“The recovery process cannot be accelerated because there are no alternative sources from water reservoirs,” she said.
Priscilla said that SYABAS will channel water supply through tankers from time to time to the consumers involved.
However, priority is given to critical users as the emergency water supply aid facility, including tankers and static water tanks, is limited.
On October 11, the operations for the Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Phase I, II and II, as well as the Rantau Panjang WTP had to be stopped after realising that there was a hydrocarbon spill.
The 12 hour halt of operations caused the inability for 1,350 million litres of water, or 60 percent of the water supply, to be channelled to consumers.
